"The thread of life" is a free service, that provides answers to questions concerning health, safety and sanitary protection in working places.

At the moment the service is experimental; the promoters augur the cooperation of other public subjects, in order to potentiate it furtherly.

Notwithstanding the existence at international level of norms, directions and regulations concerning health and safety in working places, however, in many countries all over the world still today these norms haven't been enforced or they are totally unknown, in consequence of several social or economic factors, moreover for the lack of sources of information to consult easily, without excessive expenses.

"The thread of life" has been conceived and promoted by the Environment and Work Association (Associazione Ambiente e Lavoro) and by the International Textile Garment Leather Worker's Federation (I.T.G.L.W.F.)

The service is carried out in cooperation with the Higher Department of Prevention and Safety on Work (Istituto Superiore di Prevenzione e Sicurezza sul Lavoro, I.S.P.E.S.L.).

"The thread of life" is based on three instruments:

1. ilfilodellavita@amblav.it  A specialized tecnical service, by e-mail, that will answer every question in Italian or in English, regarding safety and sanitary protection in working places.
   Precedence will be given to the demands put forward by trade-union organisations, in particular those affiliated or associated to the I.T.G.L.W.F., and to entrepreneurial, environmental and journalists' associations, and in general to all no profit organisations.
   Every commercial use of the service is forbidden.
    

2. A video filmed sequence "The Thread of Life", of about 35m., has been produced and distributed to the affiliated organisations. The video has already been translated into English, French and Spanish and two new versions are being prepared, in Russian and in Portoguese.
   It is an educational filmed sequence about the main risks in working places, with particular attention to the textile, garment and leather sectors, it can be duplicated and distributed freely on the conditions indicated below (who can avail it).
    

3. The booklet "Women's Health and Safety in Textile, Garment and Shoe Industries" of 36 pages is available in English, French, Spanish, Italian and German.

The booklet can be duplicated and distributed by anybody, according to the restrictions reported below.

 
The duplication of the video filmed sequence "The Thread of Life" (further on denominated "the video filmed sequence") and of the booklet "Women's Health and Safety in Textile, Garment and Shoe Industries" (futher on denominated "the booklet") can take place in free forms, only and exclusively in the respect of the following rules and directions (every abuse will be persecuted).

1. The copyright ownership and every other present or future right on both the video filmed sequence and the booklet in any other country of the world belong to the Environment and Work Association and to the I.T.L.G.W.F.
   

2. The duplication of the video filmed sequence and of the booklet is allowed only if neither graphic nor content alterations are intoduced to the originals; the translation into other languages is admitted, if it corresponds to the originals.
   In that case, however, the quotation of the source of the owners of the copyright must be kept. Besides, the Environment and Work Association and/or the I.T.G.L.W.F. must be informed about duplications (even by fax or e-mail).
    

3. If translations in other languages are done, at least three copies of the literature must be sent to the Environment and Work Association and to the I.T.G.L.W.F.
    

4. Both the sale and every other commercial use of the booklets are strictly forbidden (every abuse will be persecuted).
